LiDAR Course Overview
About the Course
LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a revolutionary
technology used to capture precise, high-resolution 3D data. By utilizing
specialized sensors, LiDAR generates a collection of three-dimensional points
that provide extremely accurate measurements. This makes it a cost-effective
solution for producing vast amounts of detailed data. LiDAR is widely used in
terrain mapping, with airborne LiDAR being especially popular due to its
exceptional detail. Ground-based LiDAR is also becoming more common as
off-the-shelf data becomes more accessible, while spaceborne LiDAR satellites
offer unique atmospheric data on a global scale.
This comprehensive course covers the fundamental principles of LiDAR, various types of LiDAR sensors and platforms, methods for viewing and processing LiDAR data, and the diverse applications of LiDAR technology. Participants will acquire essential skills for leveraging commercial LiDAR data across numerous applications, including topographic mapping, vegetation characterization, and 3D modeling of urban infrastructure.
